Licensed HAM?

For the past few weeks I have been taking an amateur radio ("HAM") class and had to miss a couple of classes as I was on vacation in Seaside, OR. However, we got in touch with some local "hams" down in Seaside and my Father, Brother, Sister-in-law and myself all got our Technician class license (which is the lowest grade of 3.) So the next step on the agenda is to find some good but not too pricey hand-held transceivers so we can talk to each other from different locations on our next family trip down to Yellowstone! w00t w00t!

I hadn't originally considered upgrading from the Technician license but now that I see how much more access you get on HF bands (and what the heck they are), upgrading to a General license and possibly getting a shorter call sign seems compelling. But you're right, one step at a time with finding and affording HT's first.
